Three Poems

by Brett Stout

The Plow Turns Rabid After Midnight

Packing the deformed
and
recycled cardboard
under pressure
by
David Bowie
and physics
it begs for forgiveness
and
mercy,

Mogwai
is not fluent
in Cantonese
per
se,

misery’s harassing claws
light
a Camel cigarette
that burned down
my
high school,

someone decapitated
my plasma TV
with
an ornamental sword,

there are no
templates for the wait
the endless
wait,

the shrewdness
of apes
and nymphomaniacs
bitten by Mike Tyson,

the dimly lit flashlight
AA
AAA
alkaline batteries of
transformation
corrode the happy faces
on
my stained refrigerator door.

Where Padded Walls Greet the Periodic Table

the smell of burning
bodies and
nose hair
cannot be under
stated,
the stolen bank pen
tells
the truth late at night
while alone,
the rusty scissors
sets
the masses free,
dirt clumped coinage
and
no parking
is allowed here,
angelic women
from the sea carrying
bags
of
cheap Chinese presents,
sugar riddled
serving
suggested
property
of
an unlisted number,
Post-It Note
messages
from the insane
on my refrigerator door
scribbled in dark toned ink,
the berry flavored
isolation
floats
escaping Folsom prison
and further
persecution.

Licking the Lithium Infused Walls at Wonka’s Place

Zero down,

and
four pairs of blades
but
there’s nothing to cut
ten dollars won
from
a state lottery
but never collected
dried out Sharpie markers
make
great reminders of
consumerism and angst
wait one minute please
the speakers are
blown
a
half empty Zippo
lighter fluid is
needed and desired
stacks
of one dollar bills
are made into my crown
of thorns
Alcatraz housed
and avoided in isolation
unlisted numbers
in yellow books
placed
strategically out of my
reach
the hearts of elitists
need aspirin
and
lint rolers
but
my pockets are
empty
and
so is my life.
