Aging In The Nether Space

A Poem by Judy Shepps Battle

friends disappear
to heaven or Florida

career concludes
30 years and out

mortgage paid-in-full
only taxes remain

10-year-old car
rusts in driveway

my eyes too weak
to safely drive.

It’s the nether space
where death looms

as inevitable, creating
a curious mixture of

relief and regret.
