We Will All Become Vegetarians

A poem by E. Martin Pedersen

Unless we die first
Then we’ll feed the wiggly carnivores
All those Fruit Loops make sweet meat
Unless cremation becomes obligation
And the dust joins smoke and arsenic
From the mines where we bore
To force milk from a dry teat
Unless everything runs on solar wind and wave
Such simple energy can do so much
Drive cross country on a dime
Live a century on a dollar
Unless we abolish money
And just give it all away
You need shoes – here
I’d like coconut pie – here
What a wonderful …
Unless we die first.
